AEROBATICS COMPETITION 2025 - RULES AND SCHEDULES

THE MODEL
1. Any size - up to 7.5kg MTOM - and type of fixed wing model capable of the
required level of performance may be used. Examples of suitable models are;
Wot-4, Ruckus, Ultra Stick, Acro-wot, Angel, Wots-Wot, Extra, Yak and Edge.

2. The model may be ICE or electric powered. If necessary electric powered
models may land part way through the schedule in order to change the battery.
Should an ICE cut out during the flight, the plane may be landed and the engine
restarted, ICE engines must be adequately silenced.

3. A maximum of four flight controls - Ailerons, Elevator, Rudder and Throttle.
Different rates may be used where necessary (eg spins & rolls).

4. The same model must be used throughout the competition.

5. Stability systems (gyros/stabilisers/r.c assist) are not allowed.

GENERAL AEROBATIC RULES

Normal club flying rules apply and competitors must pay due regard to the
safety of other members, guests, judges and spectators.

1. A draw will be made to determine whether ‘A’ or ‘B’ flies first and the individual
order of flying. The result of the draw applies to both sessions.

2. Briefing will be at 10.00 followed by informal flying and practise for
approximately half an hour.

3. The competition will begin at approximately 10.30.

4. There will be two sessions and each pilot will have a total of two flights. One in
each session.

5. If time allows there may be a break between the two sessions.

6. The flight gaining the highest score, in either session, is the one that will count.
The lower score will be discarded.

7. Pilots must stand in the pilots box whilst competing.

8. All manoeuvres including the take off and landing, which must be on the main
N/S strip, must be on the centre line unless otherwise stated.

9. All pilots must call ‘Start’ and ‘Finish’ for each manoeuvre. Failing to do so may
result in a downgrade for that manoeuvre.

10. It is not expected that the manoeuvres will be flown as a schedule and the pilots
may use whatever manoeuvres they choose in order to set up each manoeuvre
(‘P’ turn, Reverse half cuban eight etc) and this manoeuvre will not be judged. If
a pilot opts to fly the manoeuvres as a schedule this is also acceptable and the
turn around, or set-up manoeuvre will not be judged.

GUIDANCE NOTES FOR JUDGES AND COMPETITORS

TAKE OFF SEQUENCE.

The model accelerates along the strip until take off speed is achieved, it then
establishes straight, climbing flight parallel to the flight line. The model then turns
through 90 degrees and continues until the flight line is crossed, at which point
take-off judging is complete. The model then performs a 180 degree turn around
manoeuvre of the pilots choice which is not judged.

JUDGING POINTS.
1. Model does not track straight on take-off; disregard the effect of a bumpy take
off surface.
2. Wings not level after take-off.
3. Rate of climb too steep; 30 degrees is the standard.
4. Model goes behind the judges line after take-off:- ZERO points.
5. Model retouches runway after lift-off.

INVERTED FLYING.
JUDGING POINTS.
1. Must be constant height, straight and level.

AXIAL ROLLS.
JUDGING POINTS.
1. Rolls must be consecutive, axial and in the right direction.
2. Not twinkle rolls.

INSIDE LOOP.
JUDGING POINTS.
1. Loop should be of constant radius.
2. Loop must be round, true and not a screw out.
3. Entry and exit at the same height.
4. On the centre in front of the judges.

OUTSIDE LOOP (BUNT).
JUDGING NOTES.
1. Loop of constant radius.
2. Loop must be round, true and not a screw out.
3. Entry & exit height the same.
4. On centre, in front of the judges.

HALF REVERSE CUBAN EIGHT.
JUDGING POINTS.
1. All radii equal.
2. Entry and exit height need not be the same.
3. Half roll should be centred on the 45 degree up line.

IMMELMANN TURN/SPLIT ’S’ COMBINATION.
JUDGING POINTS.
1. Half roll immediately follows the half loop.
2. Half loop immediately follows the half roll.
3. Constant radius through half loops.
4. Roll rates constant.
5. Lines straight, level and wind corrected.

HALF ROLL TO INVERTED - FLY THROUGH THE CENTRE - HALF ROLL TO
UPRIGHT.
JUDGING POINTS.
1.Roll centred on the judges.
2. Equal lengths of inverted flying either side of the centre line.
3. Inverted for 3 - 4 seconds.

FIGURE EIGHT.
JUDGING POINTS.
1. Both halves of the eight should be of equal size.
2. Cross overs on the centre line.
3. Constant height.

STALL TURN
JUDGING POINTS.
1. Climb must be vertical.
2. Model must come to a stop before pivoting around the C of G.
3. Stall turn radius should be within half a wingspan.
4. Pendulum effect after exiting the stall turn; downgrade 1 point.
5. Entry and exit height need not be the same.
6. Quarter loop radius on entry and exit.

HALF ROLL TO INVERTED - OUTSIDE LOOP - HALF ROLL TO UPRIGHT.
Judging Points.
1. A pause between the half rolls and the start/finish of the loop.
2. Constant radius.
3. Entry and exit, same height.
4. Loop on the centre line.
5. Roll rates consistent and roll line length the same on entry and exit.

CUBAN EIGHT.
JUDGING POINTS.
1. All radii equal.
2. Entry and exit height the same.
3. Rolls in centre of 45 degree down lines and cross over on the centre.

THREE TURN SPIN.
JUDGING POINTS.
1. Plane should not climb on entry into spin. A nose up attitude without climbing is
acceptable.
2. Plane should not yaw before entry into spin
3. Snap-roll entry - scores ZERO points.
4. Finish of spin should not be under or over rotated.
5. Must be a vertical downline after the spin.

INSIDE SQUARE LOOP.
JUDGING POINTS.
1. All radii equal.
2. Manoeuvre performed on centre line.
3. Manoeuvre must be a square not a rectangle or trapezium. All sides of equal
length.

LANDING SEQUENCE.
JUDGING POINTS.
1. Plane should touch down within 15M either side of the centre line.
2. Only the final approach and landing is judged. The manoeuvre used to get to
the final approach is not judged.
